an excerpt of my piece for Chicago IRL #3: The Big Picture
At the same time, I was involuntarily being recruited into the homosexual army. Devin, Vincent, and Luis (the stereotypical Abercrombie and Fitch gay boys) were living on the same floor as me and were coaxing me into hanging out with them (it was a lot like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls, and I wouldn’t say it if it really wasn’t just like that). They were trying to help me embrace my homosexuality, which was what I needed then, but at the same time, I didn’t like them. I didn’t like the “bitchy gay” reputation that they possessed. They were “The Plastics.”
I was asked to write a piece for this issue of Chicago IRL and here’s a small chunk of it.
As if you needed another reason to buy CHICAGO IRL #3 online. Or if you live in Chicago, come to the Conaway Center for le Chicago Zine Fest and pick up your own. They might have some goodies around too. :)
ALSO, check out my friends at Failed Attempt Zine while you’re there too. There are some beautiful people behind that project.
