DON’T ACT LIKE A GIRL
THE RAUCOUS SOLO SHOW FROM WES PERRY RETURNS TO THE ANNOYANCE THEATRE SUNDAYS IN JUNE
DANCE PARTY TO FOLLOW CHICAGO PRIDE DATE 6/24 FEATURING REAGANOMIX, LEADING CHICAGO QUEER DJ
CHICAGO – May 16, 2012. After a successful run this winter, Don’t Act Like A Girl is back! In honor of Pride month, the Annoyance Theatre is hosting the show at 8 PM every Sunday in June.
Don’t Act Like A Girlis a raucous cabaret featuring a live three-person band, queer teen angst, and plenty of confetti. This one-man show, written and performed by Wes Perry, flashes back to the life of an awkward young loner who is misdiagnosed, over-prescribed and misunderstood until a near-fatal trip to fat camp ultimately changes his life. Inspired by David Sedaris, “Elaine Stritch at Liberty” and Chaka Khan, Don’t Act Like A Girl uses monologues and songs to tell true stories of special education, musical theatre, 9/11 and teenage drag queens.
Directed by Annoyance veteran Tim Paul, star of the solo shows No Fats No Femmes and Tim Paul’s Retarded, with musical direction by Charles Worth.
Following the performance on Sunday, June 24 (the same day as the Chicago Pride Parade) there will be a dance party at the Annoyance, hosted by TheQu.co and Chicago IRL, two local queer publications, and will feature performances by a variety of queer performers, including Wes Perry. Reaganomix, known from the monthly party FKA at Big Chicks, will DJ. This event, which starts at 9 PM, is free and open to the public after the show.
Praise for the original run of Don’t Act Like A Girl.
“An eminently enjoyable journey of great comic timing and reflection” – The Windy City Times
“A worthy new solo show” and “By the time of the show’s finale… 60 minutes have literally flown by and we’re applauding this nifty slice of underdog theater.” - TimeOut Chicago

Don’t Act Like A Girl opens June 3 at The Annoyance and runs every Sunday at 8 through June 24. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the company’s website, theannoyance.com or by calling the box office: 773-561-HONK (4665). The Annoyance is located at 4830 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL, 60640
